THE ARTWORK

The shape of a city.
A map drawn by time.

In Samarqand Region, Uzbekistan, a dense mosaic of low buildings and courtyards spreads across the frame in ochre, gold and warm brown. Rooftops in blue, magenta and coral flicker through the pattern, and a single reddish road crosses the composition on a diagonal, linking the dense areas. Patches of green field appear at the lower left and open earth glows in orange at the base, while on the right the blocks settle into narrow, ordered rows. The panoramic format lets the eye travel laterally, from the organic, accumulated fabric of the settlement to the stricter rhythm of its edge.

Satellite imagery. Federico Winer´s ULTRADISTANCIA art process.
