ULTRADISTANCIA MINES does not document mining landscapes. It transforms them into a visual language. Each work begins with a real mine, captured through high-resolution satellite imagery, and reinterpreted through a precise artistic process that reveals forms, tensions, and structures often invisible from the ground.
Seen from above, the mine is no longer only an industrial operation. It becomes a territorial image: a place where technology, geology, labor, capital, and landscape meet in visible form. The result is a kind of beauty that is powerful, complex, and never merely decorative.

“What fascinates me about mining is that a mine is a deeply human-made form, but it is not designed to look the way it does. Its shape evolves gradually from geology, extraction, engineering, economics, safety, and environmental needs. Nobody is actually designing its final form as seen from above. And yet, from a distance, all those functional decisions come together and produce a very specific, often extraordinary shape.
That is where my gaze begins: I approach the mine at a precise moment in that process, even though there is never really an end, because the form is constantly evolving. My work begins by looking at that unintended form as a whole and discovering something in it that was never consciously designed.”
